Bok Tower Gardens’ Hills Are Alive With the Sound of Music at Sunset & Symphony on November 6

Lake Wales, Fla. – “Masterpieces from Stage & Screen” is this year’s theme for Bok Tower Gardens’ ninth annual Sunset & Symphony concert on Saturday, November 6 at 6 p.m.  The annual event draws thousands of picnickers who enjoy a magical evening as the sun sets atop Iron Mountain. From the Harry Potter to Sound of Music, Chicago, State Fair, Fiddler on the Roof and the Rocky Horror Picture Show, the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra with guest soprano Susana Diaz will perform movie themes and show tunes as well as pops, light classics and patriotic favorites. Carillonneur William De Turk will perform the film music of Nino Rota who studied and composed original music for the Singing Tower. The tribute to the composer includes La Dolce Vita, “The Sweet Life,” and the Love Themes from Romeo & Juliet and The Godfather.

Children’s activities the Instrument Petting Zoo at 4:30 p.m. Located on the Garden Activities Center lawn, children can try their hands at a variety of instruments with the help of Orlando Philharmonic musicians.

The popular picnic contest will award prizes for Most Elegant, Most Original and Best Fall. Winners will be announced during intermission. Pre-ordered boxed picnic selections are available from the Blue Palmetto Café with food and beverages available for sale at the Hilltop Café concession from 3:30 to 8:00 p.m. The Gift Shop and Visitor Center will remain open until after the concert. Visitors are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets, insect repellent and flashlights. Handicapped parking and shuttle service will be available.

Tickets are $20 for the general public and $15 for members. Day of concert ticket prices are $25 for the general public and members. Children ages 5 to 12 are $8; children’s day of tickets $10; age 4 and under are admitted free. Tickets may be purchased at the Gardens (863-734-1222), the Orlando Philharmonic office (407-770-0071) or Chambers of Commerce in Bartow, Haines City, Lake Wales, Lakeland and Winter Haven.
