(Orlando, FL – September 23, 2011) – On Saturday, October 15, the Orlando Philharmonic presents an evening of music and film entitled Night at the Oscars, the second concert of the 2011-2012 Super Series. Concerts feature the Philharmonic performing selections from some of the best-loved Hollywood films of all time, including Ben-Hur, Gone With the Wind and The Wizard of Oz. As the orchestra performs, dazzling new 35mm prints of memorable movie scenes are projected on a big screen above. The program is conducted by Dirk Meyer and narrated by Orange County Comptroller Martha Haynie. Performances are held at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. at the Bob Carr Performing Arts Centre, 401 W Livingston Street, Orlando. Concerts are sponsored by PNC Bank, and sponsorship for the Super Series is provided by Darden Restaurants Foundation.
Night at the Oscars is part of the Symphonic Night at the Movies series, created by John Goberman, Emmy-Award winning producer of “Live from Lincoln Center.” The series has played to capacity crowds in the U.S., including Atlanta, Baltimore, Cleveland, Dallas, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, San Francisco and Washington, DC, and internationally in Jerusalem, Dublin, Mexico City, St. Petersburg, Singapore and Venice.
