Orlando Philharmonic Presents The Music of Billy Joel & More featuring Michael Cavanaugh, “The New Voice of the American Rock & Roll Songbook”

 

(Orlando, FL – December 11, 2011) – On Saturday, January 28, the Orlando Philharmonic presents an evening of great American rock n’ roll hits featuring the Music of Billy Joel and other greats in a concert featuring the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra, Michael Cavanaugh and conductor Dirk Meyer. Performances will be held at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. at the Bob Carr Performing Arts Centre, 401 W Livingston Street, Orlando. Concerts are sponsored by Massey Services, Inc., and sponsorship for the Super Series is provided by Darden Restaurants Foundation.

Hailed by Billboard magazine as “The New Voice of the American Rock and Roll Songbook,” Cavanaugh is a charismatic performer, musician and actor, made famous for his piano and lead vocals in the Broadway Musical Movin’ Out, a role he was chosen for by Billy Joel himself. Cavanaugh appeared in the show for three years and over 1200 performances, receiving accolade after accolade, including  Grammy and Tony award nominations in 2003.

Since the closing of Movin’ Out at the end of 2005, Michael has been touring the world. In 2008, he signed with Warner/ADA to distribute his first CD titled In Color. The Philharmonic’s concert will showcase Michael and his five-piece band as he sings and plays the piano on hits like “Movin’ Out,” “She’s Got a Way” and” Just the Way You Are.”
