(Orlando, FL – August 25 2010) – Casa de Mexico celebrates its Gala of the Bicentennial of Mexican Independence on Saturday, September 18 at 8:00 PM at the Bob Carr Performing Arts Centre with an exciting concert experience for the whole family. The Orlando Philharmonic is honored to be performing again this year with Casa de Mexico in the annual concert. Maestro Christopher Wilkins and the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra take the stage to perform with artists soprano Barbara Padílla, Mariachi Cobre and The Brass Band of Central Florida. Featured works include Triumphal March from Aida, Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture, Himno Nacional Mexicano, Huapangos de Rubén Fuentes, Estrellita, Popurri a Jalisco and several selections to be performed by Mariachi Cobre.

World renowned soprano Barbara Padílla performs operatic arias composed by the great operatic composer Giuseppe Verdi along with two famous Mexican songs, Despedida and Júrame with the Orlando Philharmonic as well as several songs with Mariachi Cobre. First runner up of the biggest talent competition in the world, America’s Got Talent season four, Padilla won the hearts of millions as this cancer survivor’s performance this season brought tears to the eyes of those who watched her performances. While opera buffs have unanimously praised her, she also has tremendous appeal to those who otherwise don’t listen to opera. Padilla was born in Guadalajara, Mexico where she studied music, acting, and dance. She graduated from the Universidad de Guadalajara as a music instructor and studied voice. She has performed as a soloist of many symphonic events, including oratorio and operatic concerts in USA, Italy and Mexico.

Mariachi Cobre is very pleased to participate with Casa de Mexico and the Orlando Philharmonic again this year. Over the past two decades, the 39- year-old Mariachi Cobre has delighted symphonic pops audiences with a unique blend of symphonic orchestra and mariachi. They have played dates with 40 orchestras in the United States and Mexico including Boston, Minnesota, Milwaukee, Louisville, San Antonio and Guadalajara to name a few.

Casa de Mexico promotes the rich culture and traditions of Mexico in Orlando and throughout Central Florida. As a non-profit organization, the funds raised at this annual event support their mission and also benefit Mexican Farm Workers and laborers who live in our community and whose hard work helps build and feed our entire nation. “When the farm laborers are ill or have an accident they come to Casa de Mexico for medical assistance,” explains Casa de Mexico’s Executive Director Blanquita Trabold. “That is why this concert is so very important. The funds raised from the concert will help us welcome them with open hearts and helping hands in their time of need and help create a better tomorrow not only for them but our entire community.”

Tickets are $25, $45 and $75, and can be purchased by phoning the Philharmonic’s Box Office at 407- 770-0071, through Ticketmaster at 407-839-3900 or at Casa de Mexico at 407-420-6896.
