(Orlando, FL – July 20, 2010) – There is still time for aspiring composers to enter the 2010 Young Composers' Challenge.  All composition entries are due on August 1, 2010.  The Young Composer's Challenge, supported by a grant from the Stephen Goldman Charitable Foundation, Full Sail University, the University of Central Florida, Rollins College, UCF-CREATE, and the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra, is open to all composers ages 13 – 18 in the Southeastern United States (Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Mississippi and Alabama).

The Challenge includes two composition categories: Full Orchestra and Chamber Ensemble.  All compositions should be no longer than 5 minutes. Full orchestra compositions must be written for standard orchestra instrumentation.  Ensemble compositions may be written for up to six instruments. Guidelines for each category are available on line at www.YoungComposersChallenge.com.  To enter, participants can make a MIDI recording of their original composition or, alternatively, they can make a regular audio-recording (e.g., as played on a piano, etc.).  Participants must then submit their recording and score, along with an entry cover letter (PDF is located on the website), to: Young Composers Challenge, PO Box 1689, Winter Park, FL 32790-1689.  For questions, contact Anna Goldsmith at info@youngcomposerschallenge.org.  Be sure to submit your score postmarked by August 1, 2010.

The judges will review all entries and select three full orchestra compositions and three ensemble compositions.  The six winning competitions (three orchestral and three ensemble) will be performed by the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra in a free public concert at the Bob Carr auditorium on Sunday, October 10, 2010.  The top three orchestral composers will be awarded $1000 each. The top three ensemble composers will be awarded $500 each. Each of the six winners will also receive a professional recording of their composition performed by the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra. Finalists must attend the October 10 concert.
