Travel Back in Time to Celebrate Mozart with the Orlando Philharmonic

(Orlando, FL – October 5, 2010) – The Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra begins its 2010-2011 Focus Series with a program that travels back to the time of Mozart for an evening of the composer’s music.  The program, titled Time Machine: Mozart in Prague, January 1787, takes place on Monday, October 25, 2010, 7:00 PM in the Margeson Theater, located in the Lowndes Shakespeare Center, 812 E. Rollins Street, Orlando.

Maestro Christopher Wilkins leads the orchestra in a delightful concert program of the music of Mozart in 1787.  Featured on the program are: Janissary March from The Abduction from the Seraglio; Overture to The Marriage of Figaro; Non piu andrai from The Marriage of Figaro; “non mi dir” from Don Giovanni; Overture to Don Giovanni; and Symphony No. 38 in D Major (Prague).

Soprano Susana Díaz, who dazzled Philharmonic audiences with her beautiful voice in the orchestra’s production of Carmen, performs some of Mozart’s arias including Bella mia fiamma, addio!….Resta, o cara!  and Non mi dir from Don Giovanni. Ms. Díaz has been featured by many leading regional companies including the Cincinnati Opera, Dayton Opera, Florida Grand Opera and Ballet Florida.  Interpreted roles include Violetta in La Traviata, Gilda in Rigoletto, Adina in L’Elisir d’amore, Elvira in I Puritani, Queen of the Night in The Magic Flute, the title roles of Lakmé and Lucia di Lammermoor.  In October, Ms. Díaz debuts the title role of the Cuban zarzuela Cecilia Valdes in its Los Angeles premiere as part of the 2010 Mexican Centennials.  Future engagements also include a reprise of Violetta with the Miami Lyric Opera’s La Traviata.
