Join Music Director Eric Jacobsen and musicians from your Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra in Steinmetz Hall at Dr. Phillips Center as they are joined by the University of Central Florida University Choir to perform Hope on the Hill by Mike Block, featuring him on cello. This performance will include a performance of Beethoven’s stirring Symphony No. 5, which is widely considered one of the greatest pieces in the classical music canon.
“Hope on the Hill” is a suite of music combining instrumental and song compositions that really meditates on Frank Lloyd Wright’s architecture and philosophies, but also in particular, his personal life. He had multiple tragedies and the level of resilience that he exhibited as a person and as an artist was just so inspiring to me.
And so the through line that I was really meditating on in Frank Lloyd Wright’s life was this idea of resilience, powering through it, and having a vision for what’s possible, despite what’s in front of you.
-Mike Block, composer and cellist.
