As the final notes of Beethoven’s Fifth fade, settle in for an intimate evening of chamber music with Orlando Philharmonic Music Director Eric Jacobsen and renowned clarinetist John Bruce Yeh, Assistant Principal Clarinet of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.
The program opens with John Williams’ Air and Simple Gifts, a lyrical chamber work composed for the 2009 inauguration of President Barack Obama. The music brings together clarinet, cello, violin and viola in a graceful, reflective setting that highlights the expressive possibilities of each instrument.
The evening continues with Mozart’s beloved Clarinet Quintet in A major, K. 581, one of the composer’s most celebrated chamber works. Written in 1789, the quintet pairs the warm, singing voice of the clarinet with a string quartet, moving effortlessly between elegance, playfulness and moments of profound lyricism.
Presented in an intimate, table-seating setting inside Steinmetz Hall, Resonate Late Night offers a chance to experience these two works up close, with exceptional musicianship and the relaxed atmosphere of a concert that lingers a little longer.
