  • BUHR "Akasha"
  • TCHAIKOVSKY Violin Concerto
  • SHOSTAKOVICH Symphony No. 5

Gemma New, conductor | Rimma Bergeron-Langlois, violin

The St. Louis Symphony’s Resident Conductor Gemma New will lead the Philharmonic in this program featuring two powerful Russian works and a short work by popular Canadian composer Glenn Buhr. Our own concertmaster Rimma Bergeron-Langlois will perform the dazzling Violin Concerto of Tchaikovsky.  Shostakovich’s brilliant response to Stalin’s condemnation of his artistic style, written under fear of arrest and death, unfolds in his Symphony No. 5. Buhr’s “Akasha” (Sanskrit for “sky”), an uplifting and ethereal work, opens this dramatic program.

Programs and artists are subject to change.
