Sotos Djiovanis joins the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra as a core member for the 2025-2026 Season, performing on both Oboe and English Horn. Previously, he has performed with OPO since 2010 on English Horn and has played as a soloist in a performance of Aaron Copland’s Quiet City. Sotos was also a section oboist with the Naples Philharmonic Orchestra for 19 Seasons. He has also held positions in the Honolulu Symphony Orchestra and the Orquesta Sinfónica de Aguascalientes, in Mexico.
Sotos attained his Bachelor and Master of Music degrees from the Cleveland Institute of Music and a Doctor of Music degree from Florida State University. His principal oboe teachers include John Mack, Eric Ohlsson, and Martha Scherer Alfee. As a student, Sotos participated in both the Kent Blossom and Brevard Music Festivals.
In addition to his work with the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra and the Naples Philharmonic Orchestra, Sotos has performed with the Jacksonville Symphony, Sarasota Orchestra, Florida Orchestra, Tallahassee Symphony Orchestra, and the New World Symphony. Sotos has also performed with professional music festivals including the Eastern Music Festival, Utah Festival Opera, and Santo Domingo Music Festival. Sotos has published multiple articles in The Double Reed magazine on topics of oboe pedagogy and musicians’ health and wellness.
Sotos is presently a candidate for the Doctor of Education degree at Teachers College, Columbia University in New York, NY. Sotos plays Lorée oboes and English horns, exclusively. When he is not playing in the OPO, Sotos is a registered nurse and nurse educator on the faculty of the University of Central Florida. He loves teaching UCF’s future Knight Nurses, who he calls “Orlando’s cream of the crop, best of the best nurses.”
