Yuja Wang returns to the Steinmetz Hall stage with your Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra for one night only! Join the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Music Director Eric Jacobsen, as Yuja Wang performs the Barber Piano Concerto.
Embark on a journey through the American spirit, traveling from the playful, Enlightenment-era wit of Barber’s Overture to “The School for Scandal” to the bold democratic ideals of the 20th century. We ground this journey in the European traditions that shaped our early identity through Brahms’ Hungarian Dances No. 5, illustrating the cultural “melting pot” that defines our shores.
From there, the program rises to meet the monumental scale of the American experiment; Copland’s Fanfare for the Common Man serves as a brass-led salute to the everyday citizens who built the nation, while Barber’s Adagio for Strings provides a hallowed space for national reflection and collective memory.
The experience culminates in Barber’s Piano Concerto featuring Yuja Wang, a Pulitzer Prize winning masterwork of modern virtuosity that stands as a testament to American creative power and our enduring commitment to artistic excellence on the global stage.
