Hailing from Brooklyn, New York, August Haller was named Principal Horn of the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra in August, 2024.
August has performed with ensembles around the world including the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra, the Houston Symphony, and Ensemble Modern. He also performed at Carnegie Hall and toured Latin America, Asia, and Europe with the National Youth Orchestra of the United States under the batons of Marin Alsop, Michael Tilson Thomas, and Sir Antonio Pappano.
He received his Bachelor of Music degree in December 2023 from Rice University’s Shepherd School of Music under the tutelage of William VerMeulen, and as a recipient of the Samuel Morris Slack scholarship award. August was previously a student in the Juilliard Pre-College program, where he studied with Brad Gemeinhardt and graduated in 2018 with an honorary Commencement Award. His other notable teachers include W. Peter Kurau and Stephen Pickering.
August has spent summers at the National Arts Centre Orchestra’s Mentorship program, the Chicago Summer Opera festival, and the National Orchestral Institute and Festival. He has also performed as a soloist with the Queer Big Apple Corps band in NYC as a winner of their concerto competition.
In his free time, August enjoys cooking up new recipes, playing board games and pickleball with friends, and visiting Harry Potter world at Universal Studios Orlando.
