John Klumph is a long-time member of the Crescendo Society and a scholarship sponsor for our Summer Camp. With this year’s camp being bigger than ever – expanding to include woodwinds, brass, and percussion – more students means more scholarships needed to support young musicians. Read below to hear from John on why we chooses to sponsor these scholarships.

“Music has a unique ability to inspire and transform lives, particularly in the formative years of childhood and adolescence. This is why I choose to donate to the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra’s Summer Camp Scholarships. These scholarships are vital in providing opportunities for young musicians who might otherwise be unable to afford such an enriching experience.
The OPO Summer Camp is more than just a program; it’s a nurturing environment in which high school level students can immerse themselves, to improve their knowledge and proficiency on their instrument. This camp enables students to play side-by-side with Principal musicians of the OPO while working on their performance skills and music history knowledge. By providing scholarships, we ensure that financial barriers do not prevent passionate young musicians from pursuing their dreams and developing their skills.
Having attended the final concert for several years, I have witnessed firsthand the incredible skill and camaraderie not only among the campers but also with the OPO musicians. The joy and enthusiasm radiating from the stage as these talented students play together is truly inspiring. It’s a reminder of the profound impact that music education can have on a young person’s confidence, discipline, and creativity. The camp is just one of the many amazing programs that the OPO’s Education department produces. I am excited to see the expansion of the program this year from strings only to include brass and woodwinds and percussion.
Supporting the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra’s Summer Camp Scholarships is an investment in our community’s future. It allows us to cultivate the next generation of musicians and music lovers while fostering a love for the arts. I believe that every student deserves the chance to explore their musical potential, and through these scholarships, we can help make that possible for many deserving young talents.”
