What is the nature of music? Composers use the elements of music – rhythm, melody, harmony, form, timbre and expression to communicate ideas, events, images and emotions.
An orchestra concert actually begins with the composer and his or her inspiration for writing a piece of music. For The Nature of Music concert, the Orlando Philharmonic has chosen compositions that were inspired by an element of nature:
Handel – Hornpipe from Water Music Suite • Grofe – On the Trail from Grand Canyon Suite • Tchaikovsky – Dance of the Cygnets from Swan Lake • Saint-Saens -The Elephant from Carnival of the Animals • Delibes – Dome Epais (Flower Duet) from Lakme • Holst – Jupiter, the Bringer of Jollity from The Planets • Beethoven – Ode to Joy from Symphony No. 9, 4th movement
The concert finale invites the audience to join in singing the famous chorale theme from Beethoven’s 9th Symphony, a melody that was inspired by the composer’s daily walks through forests and meadows.
Join us for the wonderful music and exciting learning experience as we celebrate The Nature of Music!
