City of Orlando Approves Transfer of Ownership
of Iconic City of Orlando Landmark

(Monday, October 7, Orlando, FL) – The Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra (OPO) and Orlando Philharmonic Plaza Foundation are pleased to announce that transfer of ownership of The Plaza Live concert and event venue has begun.

The City of Orlando City Council voted Monday, October 7, 2019 to aprove the City’s acquisition of the venue at 425 N. Bumby Avenue. The property will be leased back to the Orlando Philharmonic Plaza Foundation for One Dollar ($1.00) per year for a term of twenty-five (25) years with the option to extend. Voting is expected to take place by Orange County Board of County Commissioners on Tuesday, October 8, 2019 to complete the execution of the acquisition phase.

The Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra and Orlando Philharmonic Plaza Foundation wish to thank the Orange County Commissions, City of Orlando, Tourist Development Council, Application Review Committee, and tourism leadership in Central Florida for their continued support and commitment to the project.

Funding from the Tourist Development Tax (TDT) was passed on March 15, 2019 by the County’s TDT Application Review Committee and the Tourist Development Council (TDC) for approved TDT funding to the City and OPO in the total amount of $10,000,000. These monies will be utilized to fund the city ownership transfer and renovations of The Plaza Live. The Plaza Live is one of Orlando’s original, iconic cultural centers and is the administrative home of the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra.
